Although this meeting day saw beautiful clear blue skies with no hint of the winder season – the special demonstrations provided by Kay Robinson, Sharon Cunningham and Betty Orr titled ‘A Winters Day, certainly gave members the impression of winter.   Such delightful demonstrations that included music, dance and poetry as well as little bits and pieces to taste along the way.

As the curtain opened we were presented with tall screens adorned with gnarled barren branches and tuffs of white foliages scattered amongst the branches to represent clouds drifting across the trees.   Autumn leaves cascaded from the structures as the demonstrators danced onto the stage.

Kay’s demonstration pieces were 3 lovely collages – each different and highlighting various techniques and materials.  Her beautifully recited ‘Winter’ poem certainly set the scene and highlighted another of Kay’s many talents.

Betty’s first design included Nandina sprayed white to give the impression of snow capped materials and the inclusion of white carnations and liliums completed her design.

Sharon created a design that incorporated a beautiful rose painted umbrella – an assortment of roses staged in a tall metal vase and an assortment of others hanging in phials from the brolly were a perfect match to this colourful design.  Her final design had the audience amused as she presented her ‘footy’ design – so to the sound of several AFL club songs and with Sharon, Kay and Betty each wearing their respective favourite teams scarves, socks and jumpers - Sharon’s European influenced design finalised her demonstration pieces.

Betty finished these demonstrations by constructing a large design that incorporated large red anthiriums, strelitzias and blackened wood to give the feeling of a roaring fire.   Each demonstrator took their place around this design and with marshmallows threaded onto carnation stems sat to ‘heat their marshmallows at the fire’.

THANK YOU KAY, SHARON & BETTY FOR THESE ENTERTAINING DEMONSTRATIONS
